The Applicant must follow the following process:
Foreign food manufacturing facilities can register using Form-16 or through an authorized agent. They must submit specified documents and fees as required by the Food Authority. |
Upon review of the application, if its incomplete or some information is required, the applicant must furnish all the details. |
Foreign food manufacturing facilities may be inspected, if necessary, by the guidelines set forth by the FSSAI. |
The cost of inspection may be prescribed by the Food Authority, which the Foreign Food manufacturing facility shall bear. |
If a foreign food production plant is determined to violate the Food Safety and Standards Act, the application will be denied. The facility is eligible to reapply for recognition after following the corrective measures. |
The license is valid for 2 years from the date of issuing the registration.

Yes, the registration can be renewed; there is no need for a new application. Renewal of registration of Foreign Food manufacturing facility shall be made in Form 16, not later than thirty days before the expiry date indicated in the registration.
Yes, foreign Food manufacturing facilities may also be inspected after the issuance of registration, as deemed necessary. Provided that no inspection shall be required in case of such categories of food that are covered under the mandatory Bureau of Indian Standards Certification Mark Scheme and where the Bureau of Indian Standards scheme of inspection includes the requirements specified under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011.
