Re-operationalisation of draft FSS Regulations, 2022 – Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose and Prebiotic and Probiotic Food

Direction under section 16(5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 regarding the re-operationalization of the draft FSS regulations, 2022 on health supplements, nutraceuticals and food for special dietary foods, food for special medical purpose and prebiotic and probiotic food. It has been decided to again re-operationalise the provisions specified, with effect from 01.01.2024 as the finalization may take some time.


Direction under section 16(5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 regarding the re-operationalization of the draft FSS regulations, 2022 on health supplements, nutraceuticals and food for special dietary foods, food for special medical purpose and prebiotic and probiotic food. It has been decided to again re-operationalise the provisions specified, with effect from 01.01.2024 as the finalization may take some time. It has been decided to allow the use of additives and GMP tables as per Codex in all categories across various formats, till the final notifications of the said regulations. This issues with approval of Competent Authority in exercise of the power vested under section 18(2)(d) read with section 16(5) of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
