Quarterly Submission of Data on Rejected and Expired Food by FSSAI Licensed Operators

FSSAI introduces a new provision for quarterly submission of data regarding rejected and expired food items by licensed food manufacturers and importers. The submission will include quantities of rejected and expired products, actions taken, and details of disposal or auction. This ensures proper tracking and prevents rebranding as cattle feed.

FSSAI has mandated the quarterly submission of data on rejected and expired food products by food manufacturers and importers under the FoSCoS system. Key points include:

  • Food Business Operators (FBOs) must report the quantity of food items rejected for quality issues, expired products, and those returned due to expiry.
  • The data should also include actions taken, such as disposal, auctioning, or redirecting for alternative uses, with specific details like buyer information or waste disposal agency.
  • This provision is designed to ensure that rejected or expired products are not rebranded as cattle feed and are disposed of properly.
FBOs are advised to compile and maintain records to ensure timely submissions once the system is activated. This data will help track the handling of such products in real-time.
