The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India regulates and ensures the safety of food imported into India. FSSAI foresees a robust import-controlling system which efficiently monitors and traces high-risk products.
To ensure the safety, monitoring and traceability of high-risk food products, their import shall be permitted through 61 ports only that are directly manned and managed by FSSAI officials.
On 17 October 2022, FSSAI issued an order regarding the import of high-risk food products which includes Milk and Milk products, Meat and Meat products including poultry, fish and their products, Egg powder, Food for infant nutrition and Nutraceuticals, Health supplements, Foods for Dietary uses, Probiotic and prebiotic foods, Foods for Special Medical Purposes.
To ensure the safety, monitoring and traceability of high-risk food products, their import shall be permitted through 61 ports only that are directly manned and managed by FSSAI officials. The region wise list of these 61 ports is enclosed with the order which will be enforced from 1 February 2023.
