FSSAI Cracks Down on selling/marketing of Fruit Juices The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a warning to food businesses using non-standard ingredients like 'deionized apple juice concentrate' in fruit juices. Such ingredients are prohibited and require mandatory approval. FBOs must also ensure that all product claims and labels comply with FSSAI regulations.
FSSAI Tightens Grip on Compliance of Fruit Juices The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a stern warning to Food Business Operators (FBOs) regarding the inclusion of non-standardized ingredients in fruit juices. Following up on its advisory dated 03rd June 2024, FSSAI has highlighted the unauthorized use of 'deionized apple juice concentrate' by certain manufacturers. To ensure compliance, FBOs are mandated to secure approval for such non-specified food ingredients under the FSS (Approval for Non-Specific Food and Food Ingredients) Regulation, 2017. Additionally, all claims made on the label and advertisements must strictly adhere to the guidelines outlined in the FSS (Advertising & Claims) Regulations, 2018, and FSS (Labelling & Display) Regulations, 2020. This advisory has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority. Non-compliance with these regulations may lead to strict action by FSSAI.
