In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (b) of clause (xi) of section 2 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (61 of 1985), the Central Government hereby declares the following substances, salts and preparations thereof to be manufactured drugs, namely:
The Government of India has issued a notification under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, declaring several synthetic substances and related compounds as manufactured drugs and psychotropic substances. These include protonitazene derivatives, etonitazene derivatives, Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), and Carisoprodol. The notification also specifies their small and commercial quantity limits for regulatory and enforcement purposes.
The Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) has issued a notification adding new substances to the list of controlled narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Key points include:
- The notification declares several potent synthetic opioids and related compounds, including N-pyrrolidino protonitazene, N-pyrrolidino metonitazene, Etonitazepipne, N-Desethyl-isotonitazene, Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), and Carisoprodol as regulated substances.
- In addition, the notification specifies the small quantity and commercial quantity thresholds for these substances to assist enforcement agencies in determining legal penalties under NDPS provisions.
- These amendments update earlier notifications issued under the Act and align regulatory controls with emerging synthetic drugs and substances that may pose risks of abuse and trafficking.
