The sanitary import permit is issued under Section 3 (a) of the livestock importation act 1898. The purpose of this permit is to authorize import of livestock and livestock products, any living or non-living products derived from animals, birds and insects. This permit also conveys the hygienic requirements that must be met by the exporting country prior to the entry of animal products into India as the livestock product can be contaminated with foreign illnesses that are uncommon in India. To obtain a sanitary import permit, applicants must register on the SIP website, and select the New Importer Registration. The Applicant must follow the following process:

Sign up on the SIP website. Choose "New Importer Registration," fill out all the contact information (user ID, password, email address, IE code, One Time Password (OTP), and upload the IEC document), and then click "Submit."

After logging in, click on the apply online button, fill out Form A or B, and upload any supporting documentation or the catalog.
You can use the online payment gateway to make a payment of Rs. 300.
Once your application has been approved, your SIP will be uploaded to the internet and will be available for one-time printing only.
In regards to missing paperwork, a catalog, or a copy of any certificate, the Department will send a letter on the registered mail ID.

Validity

Many livestock products have sanitary import permits with validity periods ranging from three months to a year, during which time numerous consignments are permitted in accordance with the SIP's quantity and validity restrictions.
