Extension of the date for the enforcement of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Second Amendment Regulations, 2022

Official notification was issued by FSSAI on 27th February 2023 regarding the six-month extension of the date for the enforcement of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Second Amendment Regulations, 2022.

As per a notification issued on 26th October 2021, the sub-regulation 7 of regulation 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Amendment Regulations, 2021 mentioned that all trade mark, brand names or fancy names with adjectives like natural, fresh, or pure, should add a disclaimer, "This is only a brand name or trade mark and doe not represent its true nature" below their brand name or trade mark. However, the final notification issued on 13th December 2022 notifies that the disclaimer should be added on the front of the pack of the label. Because of this change in the final notification, stakeholders have requested an extension of the deadline for the implementation of the changes. Therefore, the authorities have decided to extend the enforcement of sub-regulation 7 of regulation 4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Second Amendment Regulations, 2022 for six months from the date of notification.
