The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a clarification for an order related to the requirement of a Health Certificate for the import of food consignments. FSSAI stated that they would accept single/integrated certificates incorporating food safety attestations/requirements at the time of import clearance.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an order on 3rd August 2022, which stated that a Health Certificate must accompany specific food consignments. This Health Certificate must be issued by the Competent Authority of the exporting country. These food products include milk and milk products, fish and fish products, and pork and pork products.
This requirement was notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 18th August 2022 for receiving comments from the WTO countries. The remarks of stakeholders mentioned that Veterinary/Sanitary Certificates were already issued for these food products by the exporting country's Competent Authority.
On 26th September 2022, the FSSAI further clarified that they would also accept single/integrated certificates incorporating food safety attestations/requirements at the time of import clearance. However, the integrated certificate must contain all information per the format notified in the order dated 3rd August 2022.
