Amendment of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules

The Central Government has made rules for amendment of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. These rules are now called the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) (Amendment) Rules, 2023, notified by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (MoCA), Food and Public Distribution.

•  The Central Government has made further rules for amending the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. This amendment is exercised by the powers granted by Section 52 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009(1 of 2010).
• These rules which are now called Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities)(Amendment) Rules, 2023, will come into effect on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette, notified by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs (MoCA), Food and Public Distribution.
• Additionally, in Rule 1, in Sub-Rule (2) of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2022, "1st day of June, 2023" will be substituted by "1st day of July, 2023".
