• Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has published a gazette on Legal Metrology (General) amendments rules 2026. • They shall come into force on the date of their publication in official gazette. • Under Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, in part VI of eight schedule under: “CLINICAL THERMOMETER’ a new section shall be inserted after Part C as Part D “CLINICAL ELECTRICAL THERMOMETERS FOR CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT.”

- They shall come into force on the date of their publication in official gazette.
- The Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011 have been updated by adding a new section Part D under the part VI of eight schedule “Clinical thermometers” after part C.
- This new section outlines the metrological and technical standards for clinical electrical thermometers used for continuous temperature measurement in humans or animals. These thermometers are mainly used during surgeries or intensive care to monitor body temperature at specific body sites.
- They must measure at least within the range of 35.5°C to 42.0°C and may operate on battery or mains power.
