The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, through the Department of Consumer Affairs (Weights and Measures Unit), has released the Draft Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Amendment Rules, 2026 for public consultation.
Key points include:
- The draft rules propose amendments to the Legal Metrology (Government Approved Test Centre) Rules, 2013, expanding the scope of verification to include petrol/diesel dispensers, CNG dispensers, LPG dispensers, LNG dispensers, and hydrogen dispensers by inserting these instruments into the First Schedule.
- Additionally, corresponding verification fees are proposed in the Fifth Schedule, ranging from ₹5,000 per nozzle for petrol/diesel dispensers to ₹10,000 per nozzle for CNG, LPG, LNG, and hydrogen dispensers.
- Stakeholders may submit comments via designated email addresses within one month.
- Once notified, the amended rules will take effect from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, strengthening regulatory oversight of fuel and gas dispensing equipment.
