Government seeks public feedback on the Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns 2023

The government sought feedback on the draft guidelines for preventing and regulating dark patterns implemented on 6th September 2023. These draft rules have been developed by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) in consultation with several stakeholders on Dark Patterns. Any suggestions / comments / views may be sent via email within 30 days (by 5th October 2023)


As per the notice released on 6th September 2023, the draft guidelines for the prevention and regulation of dark patterns 2023 released by the Department of Consumer Affairs is open to feedback until 5th October 2023. Dark patterns refers to any practices or deceptive design patterns using UI/UX (user interface/user experience) interactions on any platform; designed to mislead or trick users to do something they originally did not intend or want to do; These guidelines have been developed by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) along with the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) after an interactive consultation with several stakeholders on dark patterns on 13th June 2023. Any views / suggestions / comments on the draft guidelines can be sent via email to js-ca@nic.in by 5th October 2023
