Bar Code or QR Code Implementation on Top 300 Brands

As per the implementation of GSR 823 (E) vide notification dated 17th November, 2022, manufacturers of drug formulation products mentioned in Schedule H2 should print bar code or quick response code with details as specified in GSR 823 (E) with effect from 1st August, 2023. All manufacturers (indigenous and foreign) of the top 300 brands of drug formulations must abide by the same.


The notification vide GSR 823 (E) on 17th November, 2022 states that local and indigenous manufacturers of drug formulations mentioned in Schedule H2 (top 300 brands) must print bar code or quick response code with effect from 1st August, 2023 To ensure that the product can be identified, the manufacturer must choose the Unique Product Identification Code in accordance with his own Standard Operating Procedure. The details to be printed include unique product identification code, brand name, proper and generic name of the drug, name and address of manufacturer, manufacture details (batch number, date, name, license number, address) and expiry date. If the primary packaging label is too small, the information may be attached to or printed on the secondary packaging label. All manufacturers of the top 300 brands must abide by the notification and print the code with effect from 1st August. 2023.
