The FSSAI issued an official notification on 12th January 2023 regarding enforcement of compliance with the standards for non-carbonated water-based beverages (non-alcoholic) under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Product Standards and Food Additives) Regulation 2011.
The notification notifies the following: 1. All Regional Directors are directed to scrutinise all the licenses granted for non-carbonated water-based beverages under the food category 14.1.4.2 on the basis of below conditions with direction to either rectify the product formulation and labelling or discontinue manufacturing of such products, if required: a. It must be manufactured using either packaged drinking water or mineral water b. Mandatory contain ingredients specified in sub-clause (1) singly or combined c. Product must not be represented as water in any form, be it the name of product, label, advertisement, or representation by any means d. Quantities of the vitamins and minerals are per the standards prescribed for packaged drinking water (sub-regulation 2.10.7) or mineral water (sub-regulation 2.10.7) Check the official notification for more details.
