The Government of Telangana has established TG SAFE (Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs) by merging the Food Safety and Drugs Control Departments under a unified administration. The initiative aims to strengthen food and drug safety, compliance, surveillance and enforcement while preserving statutory powers. TG SAFE will operate through dedicated food, drug, enforcement, legal, laboratory and administrative wings, initially focusing on the CURE Region. The enforcement of this merger comes into effect from 17 August 2026.

TG SAFE will function through specialized wings including food safety, drug control, enforcement, legal, laboratory, and administrative divisions, ensuring focused and streamlined operations. While the statutory powers of the existing departments are retained, the unified structure will enable better surveillance, compliance monitoring, and rapid response mechanisms.
The initial phase of implementation will focus on the CURE Region, serving as a model for broader rollout. The merger officially comes into effect from 17 August 2026, marking a significant step toward strengthening public health governance and regulatory oversight in Telangana.
