The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Alcoholic Beverages) Second Amendment Regulations, 2025, effective 1 June 2026. The amendment revises Table 2 of the 2018 Alcoholic Beverages Regulations by increasing the maximum permissible limit of esters (expressed as ethyl acetate) from 0.2 g/L to 3.0 g/L of absolute alcohol. Public comments from the 2024 draft notification were reviewed before finalising the amendment.
