The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Import) First Amendment Regulations, 2025, effective from 1st May 2026. The amendment revises provisions under Regulation 10 of the 2017 Import Regulations, updating analytical methods for imported food testing and mandating laboratories to issue analysis reports (FORM-2) within five days of sample receipt.

Key points include:
- Effective from 1st May 2026, the amendments update Regulation 10 to ensure faster and scientifically validated food import testing.
- Sub-regulation (4)(b) now mandates the use of FSSAI-approved analytical manuals, while allowing validated methods from AOAC, ISO, Pearson’s, Jacob, IUPAC, Food Chemicals Codex, BIS, Codex Alimentarius, Woodmen, Winton-Winton, and Joslyn, or other internationally recognised agencies, when official methods are unavailable.
- Additionally, sub-regulation (5) requires notified or referral laboratories to provide signed analysis reports in FORM-2 within five days of receiving samples which shall be duly signed by its Food Analyst or Director.
This amendment aims to enhance efficiency, uniformity, and transparency in food import testing and compliance.
