The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has kept the Coffee–Chicory Mixture labelling requirements notified in August 2025 in abeyance and introduced a simplified front-of-pack declaration. The revised declaration may be used by Food Business Operators and will come into force on 1 July 2027, providing additional time to implement the updated labelling requirements.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a direction regarding the labelling requirements for Coffee–Chicory Mixtures under the Food Safety Standards (Labelling and Display) First Amendment Regulations, 2025.
The earlier notification, which was scheduled for enforcement on 1 July 2026, has been kept in abeyance after stakeholders highlighted practical difficulties in displaying the prescribed declaration, particularly on smaller packages. FSSAI has approved a simplified declaration while the amendment to the notification is being processed.
Key points include:
- The earlier Coffee–Chicory Mixture labelling notification has been kept in abeyance.
- Food Business Operators may use the revised front-of-pack declaration showing the percentage of coffee and chicory.
- The declaration must follow the specified minimum font size based on the package's Principal Display Panel area.
- The revised labelling requirements will come into force on 1 July 2027.
The direction provides a practical labelling approach while supporting compliance with the revised requirements.
