FSSAI Seizes Over 50,000 Food Packs in Delhi Over Fraudulent Relabelling and Illegal Storage

Food Business Operator (FBO) in Delhi for alleged fraudulent relabelling of food products and unauthorized storage. During the inspection, more than 50,000 food packs were seized, and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered. The action aims to prevent food fraud, strengthen regulatory compliance, and protect consumers from unsafe and mislabelled food products.


The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), through its Northern Regional Office, conducted an enforcement operation at the premises of a Food Business Operator (FBO) in South-West Delhi after receiving information about suspected fraudulent relabelling of food products. The inspection identified violations related to food storage and labelling practices. FSSAI initiated enforcement action to safeguard consumer health and ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.


Key highlights of the enforcement action include:

  1. Inspection conducted based on intelligence regarding illegal relabelling activities.
  2. Detection of food products with altered manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers, and label information.
  3. Recovery of stamps, printing machines, and chemical solvents used for relabelling.
  4. Seizure of more than 50,000 food packs from the premises.
  5. Registration of an FIR against the Food Business Operator.
  6. Consumers were encouraged to report suspicious food products through the Food Safety Connect app and FoSCoS portal.


The action highlights FSSAI's continued efforts to prevent food fraud and strengthen food safety enforcement nationwide.
