Legal Metrology Package Commodities Rules and Legal Metrology Act
The Department of Consumer Affairs' Legal Metrology Division issued FAQs clarifying declarations on footwear, use of “₹” or “Rs.” for MRP, and applicability of the Legal Metrology Act to specific instruments like feeler gauges and load cells. It also states high-accuracy weighing machines require verification after installation, and outlines procedures for import and use of such machines for industrial or R&D purposes.
Department of Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology Division releases frequently asked question for Legal metrology act and rules regarding the following points:
- Declarations on footwear with or without box.
- MRP should be marked as “₹” symbol or Rs.
- LM Act applicable for Feeler gauge, electronic calipers, mini vernier gauge, dial depth gauge, digital calipers, bore gauge, digital indicators, load cell?
- Whether verification, stamping and sealing of weighing machines of very high accuracy classes is required before custom clearance or after installation at the place of use?
- LMPC Rules applicable for the products imported for institutional & Industrial consumers?
- procedure for importing weighing machines—exempt from approval in their country of origin—for specialized use in research and development or similar purposes?
- Is it necessary to verify and stamp weighing machines that are intended solely for research and development purposes?
