The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a new feature in the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) for granting registration certificates to seasonal food businesses operating during short-term events like religious fairs and food festivals. Effective from 1st August 2025, the provision allows Registering Authorities to issue short-term, non-renewable registrations (valid up to 3 months) for specified kinds of businesses, ensuring regulatory compliance and ease of operation for temporary food vendors.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has implemented a new provision in the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) to facilitate registration of seasonal food businesses that operate temporarily during short events such as religious fairs, food festivals, and other local gatherings. With the approval of the Food Authority, this functionality is now active on FoSCoS under the Registering Authority window, enabling streamlined and compliant registration for short-term food operations.
Key provisions include:
- Application Process: Based on Form ‘A’ of the 2011 Regulations. Registering Authorities will fill out the form on behalf of the Food Business Operators (FBOs).
Eligible Kinds of Business (KoB)
- Trade/Retail: Retailer, Food Vending Agencies (including vending machines)
- Food Services: Petty retailers (snacks/tea shops), hawkers (itinerant/mobile), and food vending establishments.
- Validity: Up to 3 months, non-renewable.
- Fee: ₹100 (hawkers exempted as per FSSAI order dated 30th September 2024).
A user manual has been provided to guide Registering Authorities through the FoSCoS steps, from logging in and initiating registration to e-signing, uploading documents, and generating the certificate.
