LM PC second amendment rules 2026

The Department of Consumer Affairs has notified the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Second Amendment Rules, 2026, effective from 1 July 2027. In Rule 6, sub-rule 10(A), following shall be substituted as follows: Every e-commerce entity offering any imported product for sale shall ensure that the product listing of imported products must includes a searchable and sortable filter clearly specifying the country of origin.


The Department of Consumer Affairs has notified the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Second Amendment Rules, 2026, effective from 1 July 2027. The amendment substitutes sub rule (10A) of Rule 6 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. As per the amendment, every E-commerce entity offering imported products for sale will be mandated to include a clearly identifiable, searchable, and sortable filter in product listings that specifies the country of origin. This measure is aimed to enable consumers to make informed purchasing decisions while enhancing disclosure and compliance standards across online marketplaces.

LM packaged commodities amendment rules 2026

• The Ministry of Consumer Affairs issued the Legal Metrology Package Commodities Amendments Rules 2026. • These rules shall be implemented from 01st July, 2026. • In Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities rules, 2011, under rule 6 by adding new sub rule 10 A requiring e commerce platforms to display imported products with searchable, sortable filters showing their country of origin, ensuring transparency for consumers for better public information compliance.
