LM General third amendment rules 2026

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, has published a gazette on Legal Metrology (General) third amendments rules 2026 on 12 Mar, 2026. Under Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, rule 16, 21 and 21A shall be omitted from the date of publication in official gazette.

They shall come into force on the date of their publication in official gazette.
The amendment introduces changes to the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011 by removing certain regulatory provisions.
Rule 16, which prescribed conditions for the manufacture of weights or measures exclusively meant for export, has been omitted.
Rule 21, governing the grant of permission for manufacturing non‑standard weights or measures for scientific investigation or research, has also been omitted
Further, Rule 21A, which outlined conditions for the exclusive manufacture of non‑standard weights or measures for scientific research purposes, stands omitted.
These omissions reflect a significant regulatory simplification under the legal metrology framework.
