The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has extended the existing ceiling prices for orthopaedic knee implants under the Knee Replacement System until 15th November 2025. Originally fixed in August 2017 and periodically extended, the last extension was valid till 15th September 2025. The move comes as representations from manufacturers and industry associations are under review. All notes from the original 2017 notification continue to remain in effect during this period.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, issued an order extending the validity of ceiling prices for orthopaedic knee implants under the Knee Replacement System.
Key points include:
- These ceiling prices were originally notified via S.O. 2668(E) on 16th August 2017, and have since been extended multiple times, most recently under notification S.O. 3869(E) dated 10th September 2024, which remained in force until 15th September 2025.
- Considering ongoing representations from manufacturers and industry associations, NPPA has now further extended the validity for two months, up to 15th November 2025, unless amended earlier by another notification.
- Importantly, all provisions, including Notes (b) to (t) from the 2017 order, continue to remain applicable during this period.
This extension ensures continuity of regulated pricing for knee implants while stakeholder inputs are under examination.
