The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an official order outlining compliance obligations for E-commerce Food Business Operators under the Open Network for Digital Commerce model.
In this framework, a single transaction can involve multiple entities, including seller applications and buyer applications, each with clearly defined responsibilities. These responsibilities include providing accurate food information, displaying valid FSSAI licenses, handling consumer grievances, and ensuring food safety throughout the process.
The order is intended to strengthen transparency, traceability, and accountability across digital commerce platforms.
Key provisions include:
- Seller applications must provide accurate product information, including images and FSSAI license details.
- Buyer applications must display the provided information correctly and facilitate grievance redressal.
- Shelf life, expiry dates, nutritional facts, and allergen information must be clearly presented.
- All entities involved must ensure safe last-mile delivery by trained personnel.
This initiative ensures that E-commerce Food Business Operators comply fully with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and related regulations.
