FSSAI has introduced the Food Recall functionality within the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) to simplify food recall processes. Designated Officers, Central Licensing Authorities, and Food Business Operators can create, monitor, and update food recalls through their FoSCoS logins. Stakeholders and consumers can access recall information on the FoSCoS homepage. This initiative ensures efficient tracking, transparency, and timely communication of recalled food to protect public health.
FSSAI has implemented the Food Recall functionality in the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) to strengthen monitoring and management of food recalls under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Recall Procedure) Regulations, 2017.
Each recall is assigned a unique identification number, ensuring proper tracking and communication to consumers. The functionality provides clear roles for different users:
- Designated Officers and Central Licensing Authorities: Can create new recalls initiated by enforcement authorities, view existing recalls, and record subsequent actions using their FoSCoS login.
- Food Business Operators: Can create recalls initiated by them, update follow-up actions, and view recalls created by enforcement authorities to take necessary steps.
- Stakeholders and Consumers: Can access all recall information on the FoSCoS homepage under the “Food Recall” section.
A user manual (Annexure-1) provides guidance for easy reference. This initiative promotes transparency, efficient recall tracking, and timely retrieval, destruction, or reprocessing of recalled food, safeguarding public health.
