The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an Office Order formalising a uniform policy on compliance timelines for amendments to Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Regulations. As per the decision of the 48th Food Authority Meeting, amendments related to labelling and display shall come into force on 1 July, with a minimum transition period of 365 days, except in emergency situations. The order supersedes the earlier directive dated 3 January 2025.


The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the decision taken during the 48th Food Authority Meeting regarding a standardised policy on timelines for compliance with Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Regulations.


Key points include:

  1. FSSAI has decided that all amendments relating to the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, as well as labelling-related changes under other FSS Regulations, shall be enforced on 1 July, subject to a minimum transition period of 365 days from the date of notification.
  2. This policy is intended to provide regulatory certainty, facilitate industry preparedness, and reduce compliance disruptions.
  3. In emergency situations, implementation timelines may be determined on a case-by-case basis.
  4. This Office Order supersedes the earlier order dated 3 January 2025 issued after the 45th Food Authority Meeting.
