The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has extended the compliance period by three months for provisions relating to new standards for meat sausages under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025. The decision follows representations from the meat industry citing technical and practical challenges. The direction is issued under Section 16(5) of the FSS Act, 2006.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a direction regarding the compliance timeline for newly notified standards for meat sausages under the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) First Amendment Regulations, 2025.

- These regulations were published in the Gazette of India on 10 July 2025, with an original compliance date of 1 February 2026.
- Following the notification, FSSAI received multiple representations from Food Business Operators (FBOs) in the meat sector highlighting technical and operational challenges in meeting the revised standards within the stipulated timeline.
- After due consideration, FSSAI has decided to extend the compliance period by an additional three months from 1 February 2026.
- The direction has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority under Section 16(5) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and is applicable to all concerned enforcement authorities and stakeholders.
