Extension in date of implementation of IS 16102 (Part 1):2026

BIS has announced an extension of the implementation date for IS 16102 (Part 1): 2026 “Self-Ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting Services,” to 02 February 2027. Accordingly, the implementation guidelines issued on 24 February 2026 shall now be read with the revised compliance date of 02 February 2027. All other provisions, conditions, and requirements specified in the original guidelines remain unchanged and continue to apply.


The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has extended the implementation date for IS 16102 (Part 1): 2026, “Self-Ballasted LED Lamps for General Lighting Services,” from the date previously specified in its implementation guidelines to 02 February 2027. The extension was announced through BIS notification Ref. IS 16102 (Part 1)/02 dated 31 July 2026, which refers to the implementation guidelines issued on 24 February 2026. As a result, manufacturers, importers and stakeholders will have additional time to comply with the revised standard before it becomes mandatory. BIS has clarified that this update relates only to the implementation timeline, while all other terms, conditions, and requirements contained in the earlier guidelines remain unchanged and continue to apply.
