FSSAI and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Australia signs MoU in the area of food safety

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF), Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 24 September 2025 in New Delhi to enhance collaboration in food safety, including best practices, technical cooperation, and capacity-building initiatives.


The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) of Australia have formalised a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 24 September 2025 at FSSAI Headquarters, New Delhi.

Key points include:

  1. The MoU was signed by Shri Rajit Punhani, CEO, FSSAI, and Mr. Tom Black, First Assistant Secretary, DAFF, Australia.
  2. This agreement marks a major milestone in the bilateral cooperation between India and Australia in the area of food safety.
  3. The collaboration aims to strengthen institutional ties by promoting the exchange of knowledge, sharing of best practices, technical cooperation, and enhancing capacity-building initiatives. Both sides emphasised that this MoU would facilitate mutual learning in regulatory systems, import procedures, and quality assurance, ultimately contributing to advancing food safety standards in both nations.

This initiative reflects the continued commitment of India and Australia to ensuring safe, high-quality food for consumers and supporting international harmonization of food safety standards.
