Enforcement Drive on Spices (Whole & Powder) to be kept in abeyance until further orders

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has put on hold its planned nationwide enforcement drive on spices (whole and powder), originally scheduled for October 2025, until further notice. All State and Regional Food Safety authorities have been instructed not to take any action under the earlier directive.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has announced that the previously planned enforcement drive on spices (whole and powder) for the month of October 2025 has been kept in abeyance.

Key points include:

  1. The earlier communication (Letter No. RCD-02001/216/2025-Regulatory-FSSAI, dated 17 September 2025) had directed all State and UT Food Safety Commissioners and Regional Directors to conduct inspections and sampling of various spices to check compliance with quality, labelling, and contamination parameters.
  2. However, through this updated notice (dated 30 September 2025), FSSAI has clarified that no action should be initiated in connection with the earlier order until further instructions are issued.

The decision, approved by the Competent Authority and signed by Dr. Satyen Kumar Panda, Executive Director (CS), temporarily halts all planned enforcement activities under the said drive.
