The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has introduced a new licensing and registration framework for Ayurveda Aahara products on the Food Safety Compliance System (FoSCoS) portal.
Key points include:
- Formalising and streamlining the Ayurveda Aahara sector, bridging traditional Ayurvedic dietary principles with modern food safety and quality requirements.
- Grounded in the Ayurvedic concept of personalised nutrition (Prakriti-based diet), the regulation supports the production of authentic, safe, and standardised Ayurvedic foods that can complement prescribed Ayurvedic treatments.
- To facilitate compliance, the FSSAI has published a list of 91 pre-approved Ayurveda Aahara recipes (Order dated 25 July 2025), providing manufacturers with clear guidelines for product formulation and labelling.
This initiative underscores the Government’s commitment to integrating traditional wisdom with contemporary food regulation, thereby promoting both industry growth and consumer trust in Ayurvedic nutrition.
