The drive will focus on inspections, sampling and enforcement at identified hotspots, covering milk and milk products, sweets, snacks, edible oils, beverages and other region-specific food items.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed food safety authorities to undertake a special festive drive to strengthen surveillance, enforcement and prevention of food adulteration during Navratri and Diwali.
Key points include:
- Inspections and sampling are to be conducted during the festive period, particularly at identified hotspots and sensitive locations.
- Surveillance will focus on milk and milk products, sweets, snacks and savouries, namkeen, papad/fryums, edible oils, beverages and ghee.
- Additional commodities may be selected based on regional eating patterns and prevalence, such as kuttu atta and singhada atta.
- Food Safety on Wheels (FSWs), where available, should be strategically deployed in prominent markets or based on intelligence inputs.
- FSWs will support on-the-spot testing, vigilance, consumer awareness, and confidence in food safety.
- Inspection, sampling and outcome data must be updated on FoSCoS/FoSCoRIS on a real-time basis.
