Mandatory Compliance with Labelling Requirements and Warning Statements for plant and botanical ingredients and their extracts – reg.

FSSAI has issued an advisory reinforcing compliance with labelling requirements for plant and botanical ingredients and their extracts used in regulated food products. The advisory applies to manufacturers of health supplements, nutraceuticals, Foods for Special Dietary Use (FSDU), Foods for Special Medical Purpose (FSMP) and other relevant categories. Food Business Operators (FBOs) must ensure that the plant parts used, such as leaves, roots, seeds or fruits, are declared wherever required. The prescribed warning statements, cautionary disclaimers and applicable usage limits for botanical ingredients listed under Schedule IV must also be followed. FSSAI has directed businesses to review their existing product formulations and labels to ensure compliance with the applicable regulations. Failure to meet these requirements may attract penalties and regulatory action, including suspension or cancellation of licenses.
