The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has approved a one-time 50% increase in the ceiling prices of Carboplatin Injection and Cisplatin Injection under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The revision was made in public interest to address rising production costs, supply shortages, and ensure uninterrupted availability of these essential cancer medicines for patients across India.
The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has issued an order revising the ceiling prices of Carboplatin Injection 10 mg/ml and Cisplatin Injection 1 mg/ml by allowing a one-time increase of 50% over the existing ceiling prices. The decision was taken under the extraordinary powers provided under Paragraph 19 of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.
The revision was approved after reviewing applications from manufacturers, increasing costs of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and concerns regarding supply disruptions of these critical oncology medicines. The revised ceiling prices are Rs. 90.74 per ml for Carboplatin Injection and Rs. 10.89 per ml for Cisplatin Injection.
Key requirements include:
- Compliance with the revised ceiling prices by all manufacturers.
- Submission of updated price lists to NPPA and regulatory authorities.
- Quarterly reporting of production, import, and sales data.
- Prior approval for new drug launches under the relevant DPCO provisions.
The revised prices will be reviewed after six months to assess market conditions and raw material costs.
