The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has withdrawn the existing method for determining fruit content in fruit juices from its Manual of Methods of Analysis of Foods. Until a revised method is approved, food testing laboratories may use validated analytical methods recognized by national and international standard-setting organizations to ensure reliable testing and regulatory compliance.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an order withdrawing Method No. 2.11 for the determination of fruit content in fruit juices from the Manual of Methods of Analysis of Foods – Fruit and Vegetable Products.
Pending approval of a revised analytical method by the Food Authority, FSSAI has permitted food testing laboratories to adopt validated methods prescribed by recognized organizations such as AOAC, ISO, Codex, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), and other internationally accepted regulatory bodies.
Key provisions of the order include:
- Withdrawal of the existing fruit content determination method with immediate effect.
- Use of validated alternative methods approved by recognized national and international organizations.
- Mandatory compliance by all FSSAI-notified food testing laboratories.
- Continued support for accurate testing and regulatory oversight of fruit juice products.
The order aims to maintain analytical reliability and ensure consistency in laboratory testing while a revised official method is being finalized.
