The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued Draft Notification G.S.R. 791(E), dated 8 September 2026, proposing an amendment to Rule 65 of the Drugs Rules, 1945. The amendment proposes mandatory CCTV surveillance at licensed premises supplying prescription drugs, other than through wholesale dealing, with recordings to be preserved for a minimum period of three months.
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued Draft Notification G.S.R. 791(E), dated 8 September 2026, proposing the insertion of sub-rule (2A) after Rule 65(2) of the Drugs Rules, 1945. As per the proposed amendment, the supply of any drug on the prescription of a Registered Medical Practitioner, otherwise than by wholesale dealing, shall be carried out under a CCTV surveillance system installed and maintained at the licensed premises.
The CCTV recordings shall be preserved for a minimum period of three months. Stakeholders may submit objections or suggestions within 30 days from the date on which copies of the Gazette are made available to the public. The proposed amendment will come into force on the date specified by the Central Government upon final publication.
