The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has advised all dairy manufacturers operating milk and milk product vending/kiosk machines to strengthen food safety compliance. Units must keep FSSAI-approved rapid test kits at vending locations, display usage instructions, enable consumer self-testing, ensure kit validity, and maintain testing records. This aims to curb adulteration, enhance transparency, and build consumer confidence in dairy product safety.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued an advisory directing all dairy manufacturers selling milk and milk products through vending machines, kiosks, or automated dispensing systems to adopt enhanced food safety measures.
Key points include:
- To address adulteration concerns and ensure consumer protection, FSSAI mandates the availability of FSSAI-approved/validated rapid analytical test kits at every vending/kiosk location for detecting common adulterants in milk and dairy products.
- Dairy units must also display simple instructions on using the kits, facilitate consumer self-checking or staff demonstrations, ensure proper storage and validity of kits, and maintain records of test results and kit utilisation.
These measures aim to improve transparency, promote participatory food safety culture, and strengthen trust in the quality and safety of milk and milk products.
