FSSAI and CBIC Go Live with SWIFT 2.0 Pilot to Enhance Transparency and Efficiency in Food Imports
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), has launched a pilot of the “SWIFT 2.0” system integrating FSSAI’s Food Import Clearance System (FICS) with CBIC’s ICEGATE platform at four major entry points (ICD Dadri, ICD Star Track, ICD Albatross, ICD Patparganj). The initiative aims to enhance transparency, efficiency and reduce clearance dwell-time, thereby supporting the Government’s “Ease of Doing Business” vision.
The FSSAI, on 12 November 2025, announced the rollout of a pilot version of its “SWIFT 2.0” initiative, integrating its Food Import Clearance System (FICS) with the CBIC’s ICEGATE platform.
Key points include:
- It follows the earlier “SWIFT 1.0” integration and marks a significant step toward digitising food import clearances in India.
- The pilot covers four key inland container depots: ICD Dadri (INDER6), ICD Star Track (INSTT6), ICD Albatross (INAPL6), and ICD Patparganj (INPPG6).
- Importers at these locations can now obtain FSSAI’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) via the ICEGATE‐SWIFT portal, reducing documentation duplication, human interface, and clearance delays.
- The system is expected to lower overall business compliance costs, enhance objectivity, and support the Government’s flagship initiatives such as “Digital India” and “Ease of Doing Business”.
- FSSAI plans gradual expansion of SWIFT 2.0 to all major food-import checkpoints nationwide, reinforcing transparent, efficient and secure food-import processes.
