The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has introduced a new Kind of Business (KoB) under FoSCoS for ‘Ayurveda Aahara,’ effective 1st September 2025. This initiative aligns with the 2022 Ayurveda Aahara regulations and establishes a licensing framework for manufacturers. The KoB covers Ayurveda-based foods (excluding medicines, cosmetics, or prohibited substances), with central license eligibility, an annual fee of ₹7,500 + GST, and standardised categories for product approval and claims.

This move follows the Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahara) Regulations, 2022, and the categorisation of Ayurveda Aahara products uploaded in July 2025.
Key points include:
- The KoB, available under the manufacturer group, defines Ayurveda Aahara as foods prepared per authoritative Ayurvedic texts but excludes Ayurvedic medicines, cosmetics, narcotics, metal-based preparations, and other restricted items.
- Eligible businesses require a Central License, with an annual fee of ₹7,500 + GST. Product approvals and claims (health benefits or disease risk reduction) will require specific authorisation from FSSAI.
- The inspection checklist and documentation requirements align with those for general manufacturers.
This initiative aims to regulate Ayurveda-based food products systematically, ensuring safety, standardisation, and consumer trust in traditional dietary practices.
